What To Expect At Collie River MTB Marathon
90km Race Course
Big Changes for the Collie MTB Marathon 90km race for 2024!
As you may have noticed we have moved the event village out to Harris River Estate Winery for the 2024 event - which brings us closer to the trails and gives us more scope for re-arranging the order of the trails used for the event.
After listening to the feedback from the last two events we knew we had to bring the start/finish timing point back into the event village - and also give the fast riders more fire trail at the start to spread out and place themselves in their group before hitting the single track.
So - we've managed to make a killer first loop that will challenge the best gravel rider - and then back it up with a second loop that has all the best single track that the Arklow MTB Trails have to offer. Plus you'll get to ride through the HRE Winery at the mid point of the race and get cheered on by the crowds at the event village!
The first loop is the 40km 'Gravel Hot Shots' route, and the remaining 50km is the 'Single Track Kings' route.
You can check the Trailforks Link on this page to see up to date course information for the 90km Collie River MTB Marathon Course (Click Link Underneath Draft Course Map On Right)
In Case Of Emergency
Mountain Biking Can Be Dangerous
In the case of a life threatening emergency always dial 000 or 112 on your mobile phone - or use the EmergencyPlus App on your phone. We highly recommend that you download the EmergencyPlus app on your phone and dial/connect to 000 from there as it gives the operator a location/lattitude/longitude lock on your location for access.Once Emergency Services have been contacted please contact the event emergency contact number (Incident Control) and let them know your location (if you reset your speedometer to 0km at the start of the race and inform Incident Control of the distance you have travelled on your race distance, they can narrow down your location) and let them know the circumstance, they will advise from there.
In a less serious circumstance there are a number of options. Pleae contact Event Incident Control (contact phone number will be given prior to event) and they will advise. If there is no reception please stay with the injured rider and the next rider to attend can ride forwards to the next checkpoint (or to where there is mobile coverage) and inform the marshall / incident control of hte situation and they will advise.
The event team will have various options on the day for extracting riders. If riders have a mechanical issue then we have a number of shuttling options to get riders back to the event village. If there is a medical situation Incident Control will asses and either get the rider back via a shuttle or send medical aid to your location.
Course Marshalls will have radio contact with Incident Control at each checkpoint.

What To Bring
Safe, serviced and properly functioning bicycles. Handlebars are to have 'handlebar end plugs' - open handlebar ends will result in not being allowed to start the race.
Australian Standards Approved Helmet to be worn securely on your head at all times while riding your bike - this includes riding from your car to the start line or warming up etc.
Your bike needs to have a water bottle mounted - or rider to be carrying a hydration pack - to make sure you drink during the event. Dehydration is a risk during endurance mountain biking and we encourage you to drink near 1 litre per hour or as you require. There are checkpoints out on course where you can top up your water and basic snacks/food. Please make sure you eat and drink appropriately prior to, during and after the event.
We suggest you wear full fingered gloves, long sleeve jersey and appropriate shorts for cycling. For longer distances we highly recommend padded cycling shorts to improve comfort/reduce chaffing and pockets in your jersey (or a top tube storage box) to carry food/snacks. A small tool pouch (often hung under the saddle) to carry spare tube/tool/repair kit/spare chain link and a pump in case you have a technical issue. Please do not rely on the kindness of others to supply you with tools/tube/pump. We also suggest wearing appropriate eyewear to keep dirt/dust/mud out of your eyes.
Checkpoints will have first aid kits, and they are able to contact the medical team if required. Particularly for the longer distance events it is suggested you carry a basic first aid kit.
Austcycle recommendation: It is strongly recommended that all competitors carry:• Suitable backpack• Waterproof jacket• Emergency blanket• Innertubes/ puncture repair kit• Multi tool• Basic, well maintained first aid kit• Map• Food and fluids• Eye protection (glasses or goggles)• Emergency contacts supplied by organiser edit me.
